My Milk Bone Dog Treats Review: Here’s What I Really Think!
I hope you enjoy our uncensored review of the milk bone dog treats. The nutritional value of these treats might leave you shocked.
Hi There, I’m Brian a guest blogger here at dog and cat lovers. I’m also a proud owner of 2 Labs and one tabby rescue cat who I might add, has quite the personality.
Being passionate about animals in general I consider my dogs and cats like family.
So I think it’s very important that we do our best to give these guys the best quality treats and foods, which I am sure you would agree. So lets take a closer look at the MilkBone Dog Treats.
Sooo Many Options…..
Many years ago just after I got my first puppy (yes a Lab) named Thor, I wanted to get him some doggy treats to spoil him and to act as a training aid/reward.
I only started introducing more chews and treats into his diet when he was closer to the one year mark mind you. But I did crumble and give him the odd treat.
So I jumped in the car and went down to my local pet store. I proceeded to the isle where all the dog treats were found and was somewhat blown away by the huge number of options.
I mean, where the heck do I start? Which Treats are best? Which Treats are popular with dogs? Well.. that’s where my research journey began and searching for answers , So Keep Reading….
My Review: Here’s My Thoughts and Opinions On The Milk Bone Dog Treats…
I first came across the Milk Bone dog treat range after seeing them stocked in a range of pet stores.
Before stocking up, (I like to buy my dog food and dog treats in bulk) So I proceeded to do my homework.
Where are the Milk Bone Dog Treats Made?
All of the Milk-Bone products are made here in the US and sold locally and exported overseas. Here in the US the pet food industry is one of the most highly regulated industries of all food products.
The FDA stringently regulates all finished dog Treats and chews including their ingredients within the US.
That instills some peace of mind right there knowing the products are being made to a high standard.
Are Milk Bones Good For Dogs?
Ok, so they may be safe and made to a high standard BUT do they actually offer any nutritional value?
After scaling the packaging they have an extensive list of ingredients and preservatives. While this was initially off putting I decided to do a google search to see if the other brands had similar ingredients.
The answer is yes, the first five other brands all had very similar preservative ingredients and flavoring. None of the ingredients are harmful to dog’s in anyway.
On the upside the Milk Bone range have a total of 12 vitamins and minerals within their treats and chews.
Milk-Bone Vitamin List:
- Folic Acid
- Vitamin A, D, E
- Viamin B12
- Niacin – (Healthy Skin)
- Vitamin D3
- Calcium Iodate – (Essential Mineral)
The above vitamins are essential for everyday dog health.
Will My Dog Like Milk Bones?
I asked myself that exact question and after being satisfied with the quality and the nutritional value I lashed out and purchased a bulk pack of Soft & Chewy Chicken Range.
(Handy Tip – These Ebay Sellers have Bulk Discounts) They may or may not be still available when you read this, so have a quick look for yourself.
I personally buy all my dog treats and food online (mainly off ebay), it saves me a small fortune each year.
Ok, so when I first gave Thor a chew, I nearly lost a finger in the process, safe to say he LOVES them.
I know what you’re thinking, Labs will eat just about anything and that’s completely true.
But, I jumped on Instagram and found lots and lots of other breeds all enjoying their Milk Bone Treats.
How Many Milkbone Dog Treats Can I Feed My Dog?
All dog treats should not be substituted for a proper meal and only given on the rare occasions.
It is recommended by most manufacturers and Milk-bone themselves that the treats or chews should only account for 10% of their daily food intake. They strongly urge you not to exceed the recommendations.
Each different chew/treat product has a recommended intake guideline on the packaging that should be followed.
It is a good idea to have a bowl of water nearby as with all treats dogs like to wash them down with water.
Are Milk-Bone Treats Puppy Friendly?
I never gave Thor too many chews or treats from a packet until he was at least 10 months old. I gave him a well balanced diet up until the 10 month mark and then introduced chews and treats.
This may not be suitable for your pet and you may think i’m being a little pedantic but it worked well for me.
They do have a puppy biscuit range but I found that the ‘Wellness Soft Puppy Bites‘ to be a big winner with my dog and from what I found, many others. The Nutritional value was also spot on.
They specifically cater for puppys at a young age. But after the 12 month mark Milk-Bone Treats are the best in my opinion.
Which Milk-Bone Treat is Right for My Fur Baby?
There is no one else that knows your dog better than yourself. They have 3 different treat sizes from small to large to cater for different dog sizes.
So with that being said, check out the different options they have available here and choose the chew or treat that you believe your fur baby will like best.
If your dog is a bit of a fussy eater then I would recommend the milk-bone gravy bone, it’s one of their best sellers.
Conclusion: Very Happy With “Milk-Bone Dog Treats”
Overall, I’m impressed with the milk bone range, i’m happy with its nutritional value and know it’s safe for Thor. That’s what matters most!
Why is it safe? Because it is made here in the USA and heavily regulated by the FDA. Not only is it safe it has 12 essential vitamins and minerals that assist with everyday dog health.
